About The Men's Council

We live in a time of transformation and confusion. Many old patterns have yielded to the urge for change. As individuals and members of communities, men often find themselves moving toward new identities and new roles in the world.

The Men's Council seeks to be an inspiring presence where men can come to know themselves more fully — and feel safe enough to do the work that moves them forward in their lives.

Our Mission

The Men's Council is a nonprofit organization focused on helping men grow, enrich, and improve their lives through support, fellowship, and community. We strengthen men in their roles as son, father, husband/partner, friend, and citizen.

Our Vision

The Men's Council provides resources for men's well-being by:

  • Promoting personal development and emotional growth

  • Providing opportunities for meaningful connection and relationships

  • Creating and sponsoring events and programs

  • Organizing and referring men to support groups

  • Encouraging men's creative voice and self-discovery

  • Advocating for men in crisis

Our Position

The Men's Council affirms that people of all colors, nationalities, and religions deserve respect and humane treatment. We welcome all who identify as male to join us in making that ideal possible.

More Than Four Decades of Men's Work

What began in 1986 as informal gatherings of men in Raleigh, NC has grown into a lasting community rooted in the mythopoetic traditions of men's work.

From early weekend retreats with Robert Bly, Michael Mead, and James Hillman, to the founding of the North Carolina Annual Gathering of Men in 1996 — a tradition that continues today — The Men's Council has been a steady presence for men seeking depth, community, and honest conversation.

In 2015, the Council launched its Giving Back initiative, raising funds and awarding grants to nonprofits supporting men and boys. By 2016, $17,500 had been raised and four organizations had received the first grants. Over the life of the campaign, The Mens Council raised nearly $200,000.00 providing critical support to local organizations serving men and boys across North Carolina.

Today, The Men's Council is entering a new chapter — with a renewed board, a refreshed symbol, and an expanding network dedicated to connecting men with the support they need, wherever they are.

Men helping men build better lives — for over 40 years. And counting.
