About The Mens Council

We live in a time of transformation and confusion. Many old patterns have yielded to the urge for change. As individuals and members of communities, men often find themselves moving toward new identities and new roles in the world.

The Men's Council seeks to be an inspiring presence where men can come to know themselves more fully — and feel safe enough to do the work that moves them forward in their lives.

Our Mission

The Men's Council is a nonprofit organization focused on helping men grow, enrich, and improve their lives through support, fellowship, and community — strengthening men in their roles of son, father, husband/partner, friend, and citizen.

Our History

The Men's Council was founded in 1986 in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. What began as a small gathering of men committed to honest conversation and mutual support has grown into a statewide organization with active groups across North Carolina.

For nearly four decades we have held space for men to show up honestly — in circles, at gatherings, and in community with one another. We are not a therapy group, a religion, or a political organization. We are men committed to doing the inner work that makes us better sons, fathers, partners, friends, and citizens.

What We Do

Men's circles — small ongoing groups of 5 to 10 men meeting regularly for honest conversation and mutual support

Annual Gathering — a multi-day retreat bringing men together from across the state and region

Community gatherings — regional events in Asheville, Charlotte, the Triangle, and beyond

Online circles — virtual connection for men wherever they are

Who We Are For

Any man who is ready to show up honestly. You do not need to have it figured out. You just need to be willing to be in the room.

What We Believe

Men were never meant to carry everything alone. We believe in the power of honest circles, where a man can speak plainly, be heard without judgment, and walk out lighter than he walked in. We believe in showing up for each other across seasons and decades, and in passing what we've learned to the men who come after us. This is the work. It always has been.
